The Jacksonville Jaguars signed undrafted rookie free agent QB Todd
Boeckman and waived first-year QB Paul Smith, the team announced
Sunday.
Boeckman, 6-5, 243, was originally signed by the Jaguars on June 17 and was
waived on July 31. He was a two-year letterman at Ohio State University where he
played in 27 games, completing 255 of 402 passes for 3,041 yards and 31
touchdowns. He served as team captain as a senior and started the first three
games. He earned All-Big Ten honors as a junior as he threw for 2,379 yards and
25 touchdowns and led the conference with a 148.04 passing efficiency.
A native of St. Henry, Ohio, Boeckman was a four-year starter at St. Henry High
School where he threw for 7,021 yards and 64 touchdowns. He earned all-state
honors in football, basketball and baseball. He graduated with a bachelor’s
degree in consumer affairs in March of 2008.
Smith signed with the Jaguars as a rookie free agent in 2008 and spent the
majority of the season on the club’s practice squad. He played in two of three
preseason games this year.
Boeckman will handle the third quarterback role.
